Laura Michaelides, ASID is the founder and principal of Four Square Design Studio LLC. She is a graduate of Oberlin College, where she majored in Art and Architectural History. Before obtaining a degree in Interior Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City, she worked in the field of Historic Preservation for the State of New Jersey surveying and writing about historic architectural sites in Bergen County, New Jersey.
Prior to starting her own practice in 1988, Laura gained large-firm interior design experience while employed by ISD, (Interior Space Design), Naomi Leff and Associates, and CITE Design in New York City. At these firms she worked on such projects as the law offices of Debevoise and Plimpton, the Ralph Lauren Store in the Rhinelander Mansion on Madison Avenue, Holt Renfrew in Toronto, and Henri Bendel in New York City. Her introduction to residential design came while working at the architectural firm of Brezavar and Brezavar, also of New York City.
Laura moved to Houston in 1999, and since that time has developed a varied practice, including both residential and commercial work, with projects ranging from modern to a mix of traditional and modern styles. She also works extensively on restoration and old house projects, which include structures from the turn of the century through the mid 20th century. Laura is a Professional Member of ASID(American Society of Interior Designers) and an NCIDQ Certificate holder. She is a registered Interior Designer in Texas(registration # 10776). Four Square Design Studio also includes Victoria Estrada and Stacey Bock, IIDA, two full time designers.
Four Square Design studio is located in a restored workers cottage dating from the 1880’s in Houston’s historic First Ward near Washington Avenue.
