Modica Fine Art Appraisal LLC was formed by Melanie Modica upon completing   the American Society of Appraisers' Certificate Program in Appraisal Studies in Fine and Decorative Arts at the University of California, in Irvine. Melanie holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in addition to post-baccalaureate studies in Management Administration and Supervision, and Art History.

Prior to establishing
MFAA, Melanie managed a prestigious private collection and a corporate international collection. These years provided her with management experience in procuring works of art, ancient antiquities, tapestries, textiles, rare armaments and antiques. Previous to these collections, Melanie managed a nationally recognized, Houston based, museum quality fine art service company. Her work in collection management included a variety of fine art mediums, from the smallest of works to monumental outdoor sculptures. She managed aspects of fine art conservation, database inventory, storage and transportation. She coordinated large exhibits for galleries, alternative spaces, private homes and major Houston museums. Melanie continues collection management at MFAA and specializes in appraising contemporary and 20th century sculptures and paintings.

In addition to completing her certificate coursework in fine art appraisal studies, Melanie became a Candidate of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA). The ASA is an international organization of appraisal professionals and others interested in the appraisal profession. ASA is the oldest and only major appraisal organization representing all of the disciplines of appraisal specialists. Melanie is certified in, and compliant with, the Appraisal Foundation's
Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) and the ASA Code of Ethics.

Since joining the Houston chapter of American Society of Appraisers, Melanie has served on the Board of Directors and as chapter Secretary. She attends yearly ASA international conventions for Personal Property/Fine Art and ASA continuing education courses, including frequent webinars. Melanie advises the Bellaire Cultural Arts Commission with ongoing acquisitions for the civic collection for the City of Bellaire, Texas. She is affiliated with the professional organizations listed below and is also a member of the Houston chapter of Charity Chicks.
