2707 Colquitt St Laura took her business degree and applied it to her love of art and began selling large pieces from her Woodlands home before moving inside the loop. Laura also does consulting and makes the art of buying a fun experience. “We never want it to feel cold, “ she states as art buying should be enjoyable and she is keen on walking individuals through the process adding, “we let them take pieces home to aid in building a relationship with the work.” When purchasing art, Laura keeps the process creative and states that most come in with an idea to fill a wall space in their home, and we work closely with them until they are 100% satisfied with their purchase whether in the suburbs or the city. When asked about the art scene in Houston, “the galleries are sprawling, and disconnected” adding, “it’s hard to find a good fit.” It’s a void she sees and is trying to fill with artists such as Ray Donley who currently lives in Austin, Texas and who’s attendance at Laura Rathe’s grand opening on October 23, 2008 will be featured in his upcoming documentary, Ray Donley: Dancing the Inquisition Waltz. At Laura Rathe Fine Art, the atmosphere is friendly, and the art is stellar-one of my favorite new galleries in Houston and a must-see whether you are an artist, art enthusiast or into architecture as this building is stunning in form and design. by Sarah Jawda
