Steve de la Torre, Principal of DE LA TORRE, Inc. began his tenure in the furniture industry 35 years ago under the watchful eye of his father, Mike. Steve quickly immersed himself in the culture of his father’s re-upholstery business learning everything from scale and proportion to workroom etiquette. While mentoring under his father and working with some of the city’s finest interior designers, Steve realized there was a niche in the Houston market that had not yet been carved. The market was lacking a full-service workroom that could consistently provide high-end, bench-made custom furniture tailored exactly to the designer’s specifications.
In 1976, Steve and his wife Ceci decided it was time to take the family business in a new direction. The couple purchased the company from his father and vowed that they would indeed carve that much needed niche in the Houston market. Thirty years later, Custom Creations Furniture has emerged as the premier high-end, full-service workroom in Houston. Catering to some of the South’s most influential interior designers, Steve and Ceci de la Torre and their dedicated team have succeeded in filling the void for an interior design community that stretches from Austin, Texas to Rosemary Beach, Florida.
DE LA TORRE, Inc. has recently expanded to include son, Steve, Jr. and daughter, Kristen. With the addition of the third generation of custom furniture makers, a new vitality and zest for broadening the scope of the business has arisen, thus the inception of the DE LA TORRE COLLECTION – a collection of fine, handcrafted upholstered furniture, which can be fully customized to the specifications of its owner. No longer will “custom” simply mean choosing from a list of standardized options. Each piece of the DE LA TORRE COLLECTION can be fully customized, meaning you will be able to change such details as the seating depth or arm height to suit the needs of your clients.
